Matriarchy Now Under the Libra Full Moon

This year’s Libra full moon occurs on April 1st at  7:11pm pacific time. The moon in Libra is notably ruled by Venus who recently returned to her preferred residence in the sign of Taurus. This is a very comfortable and well resourced Venus who is calling the shots as the justice and partnership oriented Moon reaches peak power and fullness. (She’ll soon be meeting with Pluto where things will get a little intense, but that comes later this week.)

This combination of forces brings to mind a phrase I scream inside my head more and more these days

MATRIARCHY NOW

A collage of the Justice card from Exotic Cancer Tarot with MATRIARCHY NOW written on top.

What if we lived in a world that prioritized justice? What if justice looked like prioritizing that which is stabilizing and nourishing to all forms of life? What if all people were safe enough to create

If I look at the full Libra moon ruled by Venus in Taurus as representative of matriarchal energies, then it is easy to see the opposing sign of Aries, currently home to the Sun, Saturn, and Neptune, as representative of the violently patriarchal world we currently exist in.

Patriarchy as we know it is focused on consolidating power to the individual, the father, the god head. The Aries sun is self/ego oriented and sits in opposition to the interconnectedness of Libra. The Libra moon wants what is fair to all involved, the Aries sun wants it all for himself.

The sun is also sharing space in Aries with Saturn and Neptune who are also putting on a good show depicting some of patriarchy's destructive qualities. Typically Saturn desires to take things slow to ensure stability and proper preparation as it builds structures that should endure the test of time. Saturn, in impulsive and fast moving Aries however, may be compelled to sacrifice long term gains for shorter term returns. A lack of foresight or understanding of the interconnected nature of all things can lead to an inability to sustain. The current capitalist empire is crumbling because it prioritizes increasing profit and extracting value at all costs, regardless of long term consequences. Those consequences are catching up.

Neptune in this mix brings to mind the ways in which patriarchy has to deceive us through mythologies that aren’t grounded in reality. The patriarchal views of Christian Nationalism being rooted in a belief that woman came from man’s rib are absolutely laughable when it is a clear and concrete fact that every single human being past and present came from a womb. It is also laughable that nature would create such a hard line separating one version of human sex and gender from another when we know that all things in nature exist on wonderfully diverse spectrums. The myth that there are only two genders and the one that is generally more likely to create life is the inferior one is just plain absurd.

This full moon I hope we can ground ourselves back into a felt sense of justice, in spite of the violent lies that a dying empire is trying to force us to believe.

No one is made safer by dropping bombs.

Trans people are sacred and belong in all places and systems.

Immigration is a human right and benefits humanity.

No one is free until everyone is free.

To continue pondering this topic, I pulled a few Tarot cards that are associated with the astrological forces at play with this full moon. I’ve written journal prompts based on each of these cards. You can use these as a Tarot spread and pull additional cards to consult for each question or you can simply use the question and the card it was inspired by to get you considering the energies of this full moon

The Empress, Justice, The Emperor, The Hanged One, and The Devil from The Fifth Spirit Tarot with glyphs from the planets that correspond to each card. Cards are labeled for the signs they are currently in - Libra, Taurus, and Aries.

The Empress - What would it mean to live in a world that truly values the creation of life and life giving forces (like art, and music, and pleasure, and emotional bonds) and prioritizes this over all else?

Justice - What values might a world like that hold to be self-evident?

The Emperor - In what ways can I structure my life to prioritize these matriarchal values?

The Hanged One - What do justice and injustice feel like physically and emotionally when I experience each?

The Devil - How and where in my life am I being invited to challenge where patriarchal beliefs have settled into my personal value system?
